Russian President Vladimir Putin perhaps out-Putin-ed himself with his latest set of photos showing the rugged leader fishing, swimming and getting some sun in Siberia.
The Kremlin pool photos were taken between Aug. 1 and 3 and offer a distinct contrast to his American counterpart President Trump. On Friday, Trump started a 17-day vacation at his posh Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J.
All of the several dozen photos released show the Russian president engaged in some sort of outdoor activity: Netting fish, hiking a mountain, sunbathing on a lake, diving and even what looks to be picking mushrooms.
In many of the shots, Putin shows his bare, hairless chest. Also accompanying Putin was Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who also appeared shirtless.
Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Siberian Times that the getaway was a “nice spearfishing trip,” during which Putin chased a giant pike for two hours. Some of the spearfishing was caught on a GoPro.
The water in the lake rarely rises above 17 degrees Celsius, Peskov told the Siberian Times, which “did not hold back the president from taking a swim.”
Trump and Putin took their respective holidays shortly after Trump signed a new package of sanctions against Russia. Ahead of the signing, the government in Moscow ordered the U.S. to cut its diplomatic staff in Russia.
