Eight people were fatally shot Sunday evening in a home in Plano, Texas, including the suspected gunman, who was killed by police.
Two additional shooting victims were taken to the hospital on Sunday night, with one later dying, according to Plano Police Chief Greg Rushin, who spoke at a press conference Monday.
Plano police didn’t provide any details on the motive behind the shooting, nor did they release the names of the victims or the suspect.
Rushin said the victims were gathered for a cookout and to watch football. The first officer on the scene saw bodies in the backyard, then enter the house and shot the suspect.
Rushin said the suspect “has ties to that residence.”
Debbie Lane told WFAA-TV that one victim was her daughter, 27-year-old Meredith Lane, who owned the home and had recently filed for divorce from her husband.
Lane said her daughter, a Georgia native, hosted an Atlanta Falcons watch party, and the group was about to watch the Dallas Cowboys game. She says her daughter’s estranged husband showed up at the house and opened fire.
“We’re never had a shooting of this magnitude,” in Plano before, said Rushin at the press conference. “We’ve never see this many victims before. It’s just a terrible event.”
